Handicap Lifts

In private homes and public buildings, you are usually going to come up against stairs, steps or other obstacles which for able bodied people are generally not a problem. The same goes for automobiles and other forms of transportation. However, when you have a physical handicap, or disabilities or mobility issues, then a flight of stairs or a vehicle door can be an insurmountable obstacle. Thankfully, the stair lift was invented to allow anyone with special needs to ascend or descend a flight of stairs using a specially installed stair chair lift, or wheelchair lift. For vehicles, there are powered ramps and lifts available that make getting in and out of cars, vans, MPVs and even RVs a simple task.

This website has been created to not only bring you a wide range of stairlift and vehicle lift resources, but also to provide valuable information about the many different types and installations of these wonderful mobility aids.

Stair Chair Lifts

For people with limited mobility but not requiring permanent use of a wheelchair such as the elderly, or moderately physically handicapped can make use of these devices to ascend or descend stairways in the home or in public buildings. They are comprised of a seat and running gear to glide up and down along a rail fitted to the side of a staircase. The are very easy to use and completely safe.

Wheelchair Stair Lifts

These stair lifts differ from the stair chair lifts in that they are designed for wheelchair users to roll on and off directly to a platform that takes them up or down the stairs along a rail in a similar mechanical fashion to the stair chairs. These lifts are larger and capable of taking heavier loads. For space saving and to enable able bodied people to use the stairs when not in use, the wheelchair platform can be raised to a vertical position.

Vehicle Lifts and Ramps

Getting in and out of a specially adapted vehicle such as a van, MPV or other suitable automobile is made easy by the addition of a powered lift for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. They are built to accept a relatively heavy load and can make the process of transportation a much more civilized affair. They provide safety, convenience and save time, making them a much needed device to further assist with mobilit and accessibilty for people with disabilities.

There are several different types of lifts that are used in a variety of locations and situations for the use of people with disabilities and mobility issues from gaining access to vehicles, public transportation, buildings and places where access is needed by all. This website, in its published articles will describe these in more detail.
